Marvel at the silent, graceful ascent of dozens of hot air balloons as they take to the skies at this incredible summer festival. Intended to spark a love of aviation and science in spectators, and especially in young people, the event offers daytime and nighttime displays. You can also expect to catch skydiving performances, food offerings from local restaurants, arts and crafts, and other displays related to flight of all kinds.

On the first weekend in January, Sam Houston Race Park begins its new season of live thoroughbred racing with a birthday party for Elvis, featuring a peanut butter and banana sandwich eating contest, an Elvis look-alike competition, and many more activities.

One of Houston's larger festivals and its preeminent arts celebration, iFest salutes a different country each year, along with its attendant culture. The festival extends across two consecutive weekends in late April and takes place at venues throughout the city, including Sam Houston Park and City Hall. Musical performances get plenty of focus, but you'll also find arts and crafts for sale, a children's zone, and dance performances. Highlighted nations have included India, Jamaica, and Mexico.
